Sorry its a little late this week girl! Monday snuck up on me!
Its time we return to an Apostle. This week, we'll be reading Elder D. Todd Christoferson's talk, "Moral Discipline." This talk was at the least intriguing, and certainly inspired. We're taught in D&C 101 that the Lord sets watchmen on the tower, men who can see the enemy coming from far away. Our prohpet and apostles are these watchmen. Elder Christoferson sees, a way off, that the decline of our civilization is coming. He warns that a lack of discipline has created a need for more law. If we can't govern ourselves, we turn to the government to do it for us. On an individual note, when we fail to govern ourselves, we allow Satan to govern us, and trust me, he does not have our best interest at heart.

I have read and re read this talk several times. There is so much I have learned from it. I just want you to know that I am greatful that you do this each week. I may not comment much but I do enjoy reading this talks again each week and remembering the feelings I had as I listened to them in Cinference. Thank you
ReplyDeleteI also read and re-read this talk - 4 times! Then I had Keith read it. Interestly, I even enjoyed the footnotes. There are so many ways to go with this subject, but the one that I'm focusing on right now is personal responsiblity. It is true that "self-discipline has eroded'. The idea that is something isn't illegal, then it's acceptable. Lately, I can hardly go to a public place (mall, store, etc) without being subjected to vulgar language. The same thing is true for PDA's, agressive driving, etc. "Policemen and laws can never replace customs, traditions and moral values as a means for regulating human behavior."
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I am impressed by the number of people who will still hold a door open for someone else, who behave in a decent, mannerly way. These things are taught from childhood. Elder Christofferson is correct: we teach our children moral behavior based on the Savior's example. This is how the world influenced.
